How to Install Laminate Countertops on a straight run1. Measure the required size of the countertop including one inch for the overhang. 2. Measure and mark the appropriate size on your preformed countertop if it is tto long and has to be cut. Mark the lines to be cut on top of masking tape. The tape will help prevent chipping of the laminate countertop. 3. Cut the countertop to size. 4. Use carpenter's glue on the base cabinets and place the countertop onto the cabinets. 5. Drive screws through the framing up into the laminate countertop.
Installing a laminate countertop along a wall6. Measure, mark and cut the laminate countertop. 7. Place the countertop on the base cabinets tight against the wall. Walls are not usually straight. 8. Use the compass to trace the outline of the wall on the laminate countertop. 9. Use a belt sander to remove some of the laminate so that the top will fit snugly against the wall. 10. Check the fit and sand more until the countertop fits against the wall. Steps #8 to #10 will not have to be done if a backsplash is going to be installed and it will cover any gaps. 11. Glue and screw the countertop as in #4 and #5 above. 12. Caulk the seam between the countertop and the wall.
Installing a laminate countertop with an “L” shape13. Purchase two laminate countertops each precut 45 degrees at one end so that they fit your space when they are attached to each other. 14. Lay the two pieces upside down on a solid, level surface. 15. apply glue on the joining edges of the two pieces. 16. Hold the two pieces tightly together with the joining hardware that came with the two laminate countertops .17. Glue and fasten the two pieces together with the hardware that came with the laminate countertop. 18. Continue tightening and lining up the ends so that there is a smooth seam between the two pieces. Take your time here and make small tightening adjustments. 19. Once the glue is dry, turn the countertop over (You will need someone to help you as you don’t want to break it) and fasten it to the cabinets as in #8 to #11 above.
